Drilling Through Danger: The story of Matt Smith

Role: DP, Director, Editor


Carl and Debbie Smith know about life and loss working in the oil and gas industry. Carl spent his entire career working on drilling sites. But years later, he lost his son in a tragic workplace accident on an oil rig. 


In a 12-year span, an oil and gas worker died once every three months on average in Colorado, victims of a system focused more on protecting the industry than its employees.

To Look Like the Enemy

Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, many Americans feared Japanese-Americans. "We just looked like the enemy," said Bob Fuchigami, who was only 11 years old when the attack happened. Fuchigami was one of more than 7,000 people who were forcibly moved to the Granada Relocation Center in Colorado from 1942 to 1945. His life and understanding of his home country, the United States, changed forever. This is his story.

The Great Rural, “The Cost of Living in a Childcare Dessert”

JOB: iPondr explores “What happens when the demand for childcare exceeds supply in rural towns?”According to The Center for American Progress, more than 2/3 of rural families live in childcare deserts. 

iPondr asked me to produce a video on this topic. I found Gloria Bergner, a childcare provider in rural Holyoke, who shared her story about the childcare crisis in Holyoke and how it’s forcing parents to quit their jobs or leave town.

Zoe Baker: NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR FINALIST
